Just go to this site and enter the email address of the person.
It will be shown whether he's invisible or not along with his display image of Yahoo Messenger.

Another method is, just load the environment of the person in chatting block, if the environment says "Loading Environment"....your friend is available. If the environment comes without the message "Loading Environment"......your friend is invisible.
